PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police are investigating after a “large and heavy” chain was strung up spanning the width of the Springwater Corridor Trail in southeast Portland.

Officers responded to the area near Southeast 45th Avenue and Johnson Creek Boulevard at 9:21 a.m. Saturday.

They arrived to find a chain attached to two fences on opposite sides of the trail. The original caller reported the chain was a safety hazard to anyone using the trail.

The chain was on the ground when officers arrived. The officers believe a concerned community member likely forced the chain to the ground to prevent anyone from getting hurt.

There were no reports of injuries.

Police removed and seized the chain as evidence.

Anyone using the Springwater Trail in that area should use caution and report any hazardous conditions to Portland park rangers at 503-823-1637 or the Portland Police Bureau at 503-823-3333 or 9-1-1 if there is a condition that constitutes an immediate life-safety hazard.

Anyone with information about this specific case is asked to contact the Portland Police Bureau at 503-823-3333 and reference case 18-245375.
