A Multnomah County grand jury indicted a man for a Northeast Portland murder that happened in 1989.

Roberto Garcia-Lopez is behind bars in Utah. He's charged with the death of Kuen Yin Ng.

Ng's body was found on the shores of the Willamette River, north of the Burnside Bridge under the I-5 ramp to I-84 in November, 1989. Ng was 33, and police say he was a transient.

The Cold Case Homicide Unit detectives started reviewing the case in May 2010.

They worked with the Oregon State Police crime lab to re-examine evidence.

Detectives said DNA evidence led them to Garcia-Lopez.

Garcia-Lopez is currently in the Salt Lake County Jail in Utah.

He was already facing unrelated charges of aggravated murder, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated robbery.

The Portland Police Bureau Cold Case Homicide Unit is made up of a sergeant and four detectives. They are assisted by several retired investigators.
